Ava DuVernay was born on August 24 1972 at Long Beach California. DuVernay was encouraged to pursue her love of art by DuVernay's aunt Denise as a young girl. She was an evening nurse in order to give her aunt to have the space she required during the day to indulge in the passion of literature, art, and theatre. DuVernay enjoyed the movie West Side Story, which she introduced to her. DuVernay discovered by watching her mother's model of how art could serve as an instrument for activism. DuVernay was dissatisfied with the journalism assignments she was assigned and chose to change to the world of public relations. DuVernay was hired right out of college as a junior publicist at an unassuming studio. Her private PR company, The DuVernay Agency was created in 1999. Alongside PR, the agency has created lifestyle networks and advertising campaigns such as The Urban Beauty Collective.
